I'm Engaged! | Personal

I came to Erwin, North Carolina to visit and spend time with my family at [Liz] & Greg + Naomi's house. Little did I know I was going to get engaged. -----Engaged!!----- It was the most amazing moment in my life. I---- well I would share all the details but I decided that since we live out of Texas, where we will be having the wedding, I'll create a [wedding blog].

A blog about what? A blog about Nathan and I's wedding process. As well as other helpful information regarding hotels, gift registries and itineraries. Like a wedding website but it's a little more personal (and fun!) :) I think it would be nice to have those who can't actually be with us to still be a part of the whole wedding planning.

Naomi's Bath Time | Tulsa Baby Photographer

Naomi's first trip to Tulsa was sometime ago. We "aunties" love it when it's time for Naomi to take a bath. When she's around her aunties she must take a bath because, usually, she just had a really bad stinky. Or she got food in her hair. Or she is covered with some kinda of sticky treat that us aunties gave her when mommy wasn't looking. So I guess that's why we aunties love it....'cause bath time is evidence that Naomi -- more us---are having a good time.

and also some silly times..... :D

The Boyd Family | Tulsa Family Photographer

I'd like you to meet the Boyd family. Good people. Really.
Good - because they trusted my sense of direction to get to our location on the expressway where all the exits that my GPS recognizes are closed.
Good - because they trusted my idea of going to Woodward Park (where I have only shot once - well now twice) on the day of Senior Prom.
Good - because they made me laugh the entire shoot.
Good - because they gave me the sweet pleasure to capture them. :)

::EDIT:: I prefer not to shoot at Woodward Park on the weekends because it's too crowded. So we went to the waaaaaaaay back where we were more comfortable and had privacy.

Wow time really does fly, and we're still celebrating our 3rd Year Anniversary of being in the photog business. :)

I am so excited to hit my 3 year milestone, that I decided to have another giveaway!

This month were celebrating J Lori Photography's third anniversary! For three years I've been a freelance portrait photographer and I love, love, LOVE it!

On the Other Side

2008 was the year I took my portraits. I feel awful that I haven't taken any recent ones because, well, I'm a PORTRAIT photographer. The girl-photog that can go on and on about how portraits are treasures hasn't had any recent ones (at least ones that aren't on self-timer). But what you don't understand is that actually getting in front of the camera is hard for me. As a photographer, I want to be the one responsible of capturing the moment that won't happen again exactly like it just did. So to give someone else the responsiblity - heck! to hand my camera to someone else...is hard.

But it's my goal this year to take every opportunity I possible can to be on the other side of the camera. I'm even searching for a good portrait photographer around my area to take some new portraits. I love to look at portraits of my mother and I want my future kids to have the chance to do the same.

At the park I took the first step towards this goal and asked Nathan, who isn't trying the least to be a photographer, if he could take a few shots of me. Lot's of cropping and editing had to be done but I still appreciate them. Poor guy, he had to work hard because I completely went blank.

It was such a beautiful day that I just HAD to go for a walk. The first warm days after winter are truly the best.

This post is way over due. I was going through archives to pull out any images for some new buiz cards and I ran across this portrait session and realized I hadn't posted it on the blog yet. I'm so sorry, Mitchy-blue! I so thought I posted these already!!

Michelle was the lucky chick who's number was drawn to win a portrait session with us. She really was breeze to photograph. She had great "this is so Michelle" outfits and pretty much did anything I asked her to. HA! Her smile is one you'll just never forget because she - as Tyra Banks would say - smiles with her face. She's such a beautiful girl inside out, and I'm not just saying that cause she's my cousin.

Merry Christmas

The smell of my house during Christmas. Tex-Mex food. Hugging and giving my Daddy a kiss on the cheek every night. My niece's first Christmas with the Charles' this year. Laughing with my cousins till we tear. Seeing my friends and singing their names when we reunite -- "Naaasuuun!". Listening to Bing Crosby serenaded us with Christmas music, as we feel like Martha Stewart wrapping presents. Remembering the reason why we gather near the ones who are dear to us.

It's so good to be home for Christmas. I have to admit that secretly I thought I wasn't going to make it home for Christmas. My first job was very corporate (dull too) and only gave employees Christmas Day off. I was downhearted. But!-- I never gave up. The job that I have now (each day is different), however, gives their employees two weeks off for the Holidays. Two weeks to relax, celebrate and enjoy my family.

It's Christmas. And I want to make sure I'm enjoying every minute. I want to thank YOU. You, who comes to this blog and shares your life, time, space with me. I am enriched because of your stories, your friendship and your support. From the bottom of my heart...

Johnny & Tahnee | Tulsa Couple Photographer

Let's see...where do I begin? Secretly I've been wanting to have a shoot with this couple and I was stoked when random.com picked out Tahnee as the winner of J Lori's 2nd Anniversary session giveaway. I had a feeling that this couple had it in them to be gorge! (for those who don't know what "gorge" means: gorgeous in a realistic-fashionistic way. I was telling Nathan that they looked like they came out of a J.Crew catalog but they are completely authentic. From the start I knew I couldn't put them into a box of the “bubbly couple”. Even when I was coaching? poses - with them, they all felt and looked natural. You know the couple is in love when the photographer doesn't have to work too hard during the shoot. Oh---and these two have two beautiful little girls and have been married for some time :D

I saw this bridge the first day I moved here to Tulsa. It was love at first sight...the light was ahhhh-mazing!

Then we headed to Main in Jenks.

People were honking, shouting, whistling, looking but it didn't seem bother these two.

To Tahnee in the left picture: beautiful! and to the right, they think Nathan is funny. :)

Natural Goodness | Tulsa Family Photographer

It's always an adventure photographing this family! We wanted to do something different than we've done before so we headed to...well...somewhere in Jenks for an all natural goodness shoot. It is such a beautiful place to shoot! (Except for the "stickers" that poked the kiddos<-) The weather was wonderful, the light was resplendent, it's kind of private which was great because it made us feel comfortable AND I had two energetic helpers. I was one happy photographer!

Let's start with one of my favorites from the session, shall we? It's also one of the first shots of the session! Isn't she the cutest?!?!

Then some nice classic individual portraits of the kiddos. I just had to show 'em off! They've grown so much since last year's session.

It's no wonder where the kiddos get their looks from Stunning!

I really, REALLY like the image on the left. So much love going on and they both are glowing. It reminds me of a priceless portrait my father took of my mother and I. I have it framed and hung. Hopefully... one day... little Ava will do the same.

Jesus and Allison | Harlingen Wedding Photography

I am so excited to share these now!!.

Allison and Jesus are high school sweethearts. Allison was in pit (percussionist who perform during half time in front of the marching band) and Jesus was in the drumline. Which is how they met. Now years later, married. They had their wedding ceremony at a beautiful church in Harlingen, and it was such a happy ceremony.

It poured rain for two days before the wedding which was making me nervous because the plan was to take a few portraits outside. Then three hours before the ceremony it cleared up and went to a nice 80 degree weather. =D This is my favorite part of the wedding day. Everyone is much more relaxed, being themselves and working it!! From the beginning, Allison told me she wanted a "jumping" group shot. Which is my favorite fun-UN perfect shot of the session (you see it towards the end). Love!

The reception was a complete blast and such a joyful experience . The toasts, the dances. I swear I tear up at every wedding during the B&G's first dance and the father daughter dance. The way the groom holds his bride-- like he's holding the most beautiful thing he's ever seen in his life. The way the father holds his daughter, reminiscing all the "moments" in life he will remember eternally of his little girl. It gets me EV-ER-Y time.

Then after that there was some serious dancing and tons of laughter going on.

Thank you Allison and Jesus for asking me to capture such a beautiful day. You two are a perfect pair!

I want to give a little shout out to fashion photographer, Miguel Sanchez who assisted me as a second shooter. He took care of the guys and opposite angles. (See if you can spot him on the "dancing" collage) You are awesome and it was such a pleasure to work with you!!

Jesus & Allison | RGV Wedding Preview

A little preview of what's to come! I chose to pick this classic photo for a preview because honestly, it's one of my favorites from the wedding ceremony. I believe it describes exactly what the ceremony was; classic, graceful and elegant. The reception is a whooole different story BUT we'll save that for later. ;)

Update:: I JUST got settled here in Tulsa. So I am a bit behind from the whole move but I am trying my best to catch up and hurry up with all the editing that needs to get done. My goal is get to all the emails by the end of today! Woohoo :D

To Oklahoma we go | Lori's life

Based on all the confused faces/comments/e-mails I've received, I thought it was time to make an "official" announcement, rather than just sprinkles of information here and there.

It is with a heavy heart (cause darn! I love you, Texas) that I announce we are moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's something that I've been wanting to do for a while now but more so it's something that I know I'm suppose to do. When you're following God--well that's just it. You are following. Will I miss Texas? Oh yes. Will I miss the Valley? To be sure. I LOVE my clients here, my dad and sister, my dear friends, my close cousins, my church, the big Texas sky, Friday Night Football, the smell of Texas BBQ on Saturday evenings, HEB, breakfast tacos anywhere, the beach --ooh gosh the beach!!--and the list goes on and on. I never and the thought still has never crossed my mind "I want to get out of the Valley", because I just love and appreciate it very much. So I must not linger too long on this list. :)

With that said, on to the next thing. Will I have"J Lori Photography" there? Absolutely! I LOVE what I do. The thought of not having smiling faces to photograph just isn't an option. Which brings me to another important announcement!! Once I make the move my main focus will shift to photographing newborns/maternity, babies, toddlers, kids, teens, high school seniors, families and adults. Engagement and wedding photography will also be available but limited. No longer "available for every photography need". That's not me. Plus, I don't think it's fair to give someone my second best because it's not what I specialize in. I'm very excited about this decision. It's one that I've been wanting to make for a while. :) My goal right now is to finish shooting August sessions, a wedding, pack and getting us moved and settled. I will be looking for a job in graphic design/print or something within that field. Once I get that settled, I'll get started on J Lori Photography in Tulsa.

To all my clients, thank you from the bottom of my heart for selecting me as your photographer. I feel so honored to have captured two loves coming together as one and photographing beautiful people.

To my blog readers -- thank you for coming along for the ride with me. I plan to document our adventures with the sweet babies and children of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Happy Early Birthday to me!

Earlier this year I was reading a photographer's blog who wrote a review on the Fuji Instax Mini Instant Camera that {Photojojo} is selling on thier website. OH MY GOSH!! One look at that baby and I said, "YES, please!" It quickly was added to my birthday list.

I was planning to get it as a birthday present to myself but as my birthday came closer I knew it wasn't going to happen since I need to save for --- well, I'll tell y'all later on another post soon --- SO, my bear sent me a birthday package in the mail and surprised me with this camera! He's just too sweet!!

Assembly was very easy. You just take it out of the box, pop the batteries in, pop the film in, and go. I am, however, adjusting to the way you're suppose to hold it. The camera stands vertically and I'm so used to rectangular cameras.

I took a few shots inside and some by mistake, haha. The shutter button is very sensitive so you don't really have to press it hard. I was amazed by the quality of it and the "not so bright but lot's of light" flash. For an instant camera, it's pretty good. I LOVE it and can't wait to use it all day tomorrow! (I took a photo of myself and dedicate it to my sister Jay who is probably saying, "Finally a self portrait!")

This next photo has nothing to do with my early birthday present, it's just something I want to share with you. I've been known to love the smell of cilantro and lemon/lime. I even wished (out loud) for a candle that smells like cilantro or lemon. WELL---I went to Big Lots and was looking around and THERE-IT-WAS! A Citrus Cilantro scented candle!! It has a yummy fresh scent. I bought two but I think I'll be going back to get more!!

Splash! | RGV Child Photographer

My sister and precious niece came to visit us deep in the heart of Texas, hehe. I was so excited to see them but more suprised to see how much my niece has grown! She's going to be 15 months next wednesday!! Time flies.

Naomi, my niece is such a water girl. LOVES to splash, kick, sip, and play in the water. On a warm sunday afternoon we took her out on the back yard and brought out the mini pool (I'm sure you have one too ;). I decided to bring my camera because I don’t do a great job recording my niece when I’m busy (and I’m BUSY!), so it was time. She had a blast and I had SO much fun laughing with her in between snaps.

I know the grandparents and aunties will thank me for these ;)

then she got wet...hehe

A little shy at first...

but then, she quickly got into making bubbles with her mouth and trying to "catch" the water.

The many faces she makes; curious, playful, sneaky and...

the "I'm so excited I can scream and laugh at the same time" face!!

Priscilla's Sneak Peeks | RGV Portrait Photographer

I really enjoyed hanging out with Priscilla and I had such a fantastic time working with Glori, a fashion designer (who also did Priscilla's hair and makeup). I think next to newborn sessions, a portrait session with a good friend is what I LOVE about my job. We had so much fun during the shoot that I literally was jumping up and down with excitement at all the great ideas we came up with. Priscilla has a killer sense of style and has such an outgoing personality to match with it. I know both Priscilla and Glori have been dying to see some more sneak peeks so here's to y'all! Enjoy!

Engaged! | Allison & Jesus

I had such a good time hanging out with Allison & Jesus for their recent engagement session. These two are so cute together, and they are seriously one of the funniest couples I’ve had the privilege to photograph. They had me cracking up pretty much the entire shoot. I’m really looking forward to, as Jesus put it, their "very Mexican" wedding. I know it’s going to be such a fun day! Here are few sneak peeks of their engagement session...

I've been wanting to shoot at the {LONE STAR RESTAURANT} for a while now, and once I saw Jesus' boots and Allison's outfit I just knew that this location would be perfect!

Allison and Jesus have a cute dog and I can't remember her name cause I kept calling her doggie (just like my fish's name is fishie). Anyway, she was adorable!

City Chicks | RGV Event Photographer

Before I left to Tulsa, I had the pleasure of photographing City on a Hill's CITY CHICKS exclusive dinner event. I love capturing the body of Christ helping out a brother or women enjoying fellowship with one another, or really...just a bunch of friends having a heck of a good time. For this particular event, I couldn't stop admiring these gift bags. The amount of time these chicks put into all the details from the hand painted banners to the hand made gift bags (and they say they don't really have artistic talent, pft!) Here are some photos of gift bags Pastor Noemi assisted in putting together and the handmade flowers and tags were made by Worship Pastor Gilma. I absolutely LOVED these!! I made a hair clip out of my flower :)

When I was in college taking a public speech class, they asked us students to name our favorite speakers. Some said presidents, some named movie stars, I said "My sister, Noemi". She's so expressive and a very good speaker (and translator!).

Tiffani Ortega | RGV Sweet Sixteen

Tiffani, her parents, friends and family celebrated her sixteen birthday Saturday, May 22nd in Harlingen, Texas. It was a true joy working with Tiffani, and her parents as well, as they were always kind and fun. Being around such a close-knit family was so wonderful to capture. I laughed more than I ever have at a sweet sixteen, and I had the privilege of photographing several events.

The event started at City On a Hill with many giddy people walking around waiting for Tiffani to come out in her beautiful dress. Once she entered the building the emotional moments started pouring...you'll see. This is probably the longest blog post with the most photos I ever done. I couldn't help it! There were too many precious moments I just HAD TO share with you.

At a Sweet Sixteen or Quinceanera, after the service they do not call it a "reception", they call it a dinner and dance. So I decided to skip the dinner and get right to the dancing. (It's also my favorite time of any event) I'm warning you, you might get teary eyed, laugh and say "Awwwww", all in the next few minutes.

High School Seniors Wanted!

I am thrilled to announce that we are looking for high school senior spokesmodels!! Please READ the details below, and follow the instructions to submit your information. It is very important you meet all our requirements. We will ONLY be able to contact you if you meet the requirments. More details provided once we choose our models. Thank you!

We are looking for high school seniors that have a love for fashion---or at least rockin out your own style---independent thinkers to spread the word and being COMFORTABLE in front of the camera is a must. If you have always been interested in modeling, or think you have a unique and awesome/out-going personality YOU are the senior we are looking for! Don’t be afraid to submit your information, because YOU might be exactly what we are looking for, so take a chance! Plus, if it doesn't work out, we might use your application for a future project.

Here are the requirements:
• Must live in the RGV area and be available during a WEEK DAY in July/August.
• Must be an actual high school student --- please, no college students.
• Please no agency models. A Model Release will be required.
• Please be sure to have parental consent.
• Must fill out our {Senior Spokesmodel Application}
• Must e-mail a photo of yourself to seniors@jlori.com --- it does not have to be a professional photo ;)

Amber's Sneak Peeks | Musicians

Hope y'all had a good Memorial day weekend! Here are Amber's beautiful sneak peeks.
Last week we went out to the country and did a mini session for my cousin, Amber, who fell in love with her cello. She was such a natural in front of the camera and knew just what she wanted. We made a good team ;) --- oh yeah, and she's only 13! We had a warm sunny afternoon, and the location (thanks to my aunt Martha) was perfect for the styling of the shoot. Sweet Sixteen Portraits, TIFFANI

Hello everyone! Happy Thursday! The weekend is almost here!! Tiffani is all about fun, boots, and being herself. Her features are amazing (and they totally remind me a bit of Camilla Belle, don’t they?). I want to introduce our “Sweet Sixteen Portrait” photography with Tiffani’s Couture session from last week (we refer to it as a Couture Session, to combine quinceanera portraits and sweet sixteen portraits into one category). We had a very windy day but with Tiffani's natural style, it just worked. I was impressed with all her talent. She plays soccer, tennis and is learning the piano! Watch out because this little country music lovin, down to earth girl is going places! Raise your hand if you agree! :) I had fun with this session, and I jam-packed this weekend with editing and then off to shooting her sweet sixteen event! Excited about that!! Roxie & Daniel's Wedding - Sneak Peek

Saturday night I had a blast photographing my cousin, Roxie & Daniel's wedding reception at the coolest venue I've seen yet for a wedding reception. The wedding was extremely simple--lots of fun and one of the most relaxing weddings I've ever photographed yet. The unique theme was one I have yet to see for a wedding, safari. The constant, which I thought was super cool, were converse sneakers--including the bride wearing a pair.

J Lori Photography is celebrating its 2nd anniversary! (can you believe it?! WOW)

I remember very clearly going out into a field I spotted with my little Sony camera to have my first shoot ever with Amanda for a fashion promo. How nervous I was. Now, after looking at the previews from our latest session, I'm proud on how much "J Lori" has grown.

I LOVE my clients! I appreciate the families (AND BRIDE!) that knew they were my "first" family, wedding and just trusted my artistic talent. Thanks, that meant SOO much. To future clients, I haven't met you yet but I'm sure excited about it. ;)

I know we aren't perfect, and we don't try to pretend like we are. That mentality will only stop us from advancing.

We are always "on the watch"/learning/"up to date" with the latest techniques for lifestyle photography and reading the latest design books for inspiration. This helps us achieve our modern style...so we're not stuck in the "that-was-so-5-years ago." ;)

First time to Virginia!

My sister and brother-in-law invited me to a trip to Virginia Beach. Of course I couldn't say no to that. Plus {Jason Upton} was going to be in Williamsburg, VA!! So we headed out to a place I've never been to. :) Then when I heard we were going to stop at Jamestown I was even more excited!! I've always wanted to visit the village since the 5th grade!! It was so lovely. We didn't have much time to really look around but just being there was an experience in itself.

I encourage everyone to visit Jamestown or {Williamsburg, VA}. It's such a beautiful place. GREAT for family vacations and couples that want a getaway. I'll be going back for sure!!

The first governor's house called the "Governor's Palace". All of these houses and building are the real deal. No "models" of how it would look like. Just some touch-up remodeling to keep the buildings from falling apart.

A little juxtaposition for you. (excuse the blur :(...) hehe.

Then off to Virginia Beach. I'm not going to post many photos since I was staying at a private residence. But they did have the most beautiful tulips (my fav) that when the sun hit them...they looked like mini laps. Just beautiful.

1st warm day = A day at the beach

The flowers are blooming and weather is nice. What can be better?

These photos have been sitting in my drive for weeks alllll ready to be blogged but I've been quite a busy bee booking, planning, talking with clients for their spring/summer shoots,events and weddings (whew!).

They are some of the CUTEST of my little niece and her mommy, so I just had to post. She LOVED the beach!

It was the first warm day of the year but still the wind was just blowin. Ain't she super cute with her spring bonnet?

Hope you are enjoying this spring season that has just begun...we’ve been out-n-about feeling the warm sun on our skin.

New Photo Toy

As my personal facebook status I played a little guessing game with my friends to see who can guess what new photog toy I got.

Answer is...drum roll please....a speedlite, bracket and soft box! But for short, an external flash and diffuser ;) That makes Alex the winner of the guessing game!

Yes, I do shoot sessions in natural light and it takes A LOT for me to shoot with flash. But for maternity/newborn sessions I shoot mostly with available light and sometimes I need to "create" more light to bounce off of. I also bought this toy for weddings I'll be shooting this summer/fall. I already had a slave flash but it just wasn't giving me the results I wanted.

Now I have to work out my arms because this toy is heavy! ;)

Anyway I can't wait for the moment I put this toy into good use.

I'm waiting for my new business cards to arrive so a post about that as soon as they arrive!

TUTU Obsession!

Tutu - a short, full skirt, usually made of several layers of tulle, worn by ballerinas. OR!- cute little girlies, J Lori clients, tables, --- wait, what?! Tables???

Lately I've been obsessed with tutus. I get thrilled at the idea of little girls dressing up in tutu's just because or for birthday parties or having a ballerina theme for their rooms. So while I was google-ing I saw some images that look like a homemaker-mom can master. So I thought I would share to those who are also obsessed with tutus. {And also for mom's to book that ballerina shoot they've been wanting to do with us ;) }

Here's the tutu table! I thought this was very creative and super cute!!

Little Miss Naomi has developed such a personality. I had a really fun time photographing her. She was all giggles and curiosity. Well, I won't delay anymore...here are some previews of her 9 month session.

We'll start with my favorite from her session. I love the whole beachy-vintage feel--plus the little vintage cloth diaper that her mom picked out added to it!

She's known for giving such a serious face.

She's a big girl now! Her momma was telling me she's realized Naomi has grown a lot since her past session.

Her aunt Noemi calls this her "Kung-Fu Panda" pose...lol!

Her momma put her on a dress...and well....she didn't like it very much. :) What a personality...

Sweet Little Pumpkin

I realized that I did not post any photos of Naomi Ray's 4 month portraits! When Naomi was 3 months, her mommy was traveling so we couldn't take her portraits and I was traveling alot after her session in September(which explains why I didn't post any photos) But here they are!! Look at this cutie...

Her mother was born in October and she just LOVES pumpkins, so that explains her "little pumpkin" bib - she even has the socks to match it!

She caught me!! My favorite shot from her session...

She will be 9 months tomorrow and ready for her 9 month session - so there will be some images of that soon!

New Decade = New Design

Welcome to the new look of J Lori Photography! I am very excited to FINALLY be posting this up! I designed about 20 logos for our new look (which is why I was MIA) and I just knew this logo was it! I think it's absolutely soo....well J Lori style. I already had my logo done before but I wanted a somewhat new look and color. I also wanted one logo that can go with both our lifestyle portraits, weddings, quinceaneras/sweet sixteen, seniors - just anything that has to do with us. So now that we have a new logo we can continue on with updating our website, blog and other products. I would LOVE to hear your thoughts about the new look so drop us a comment porfavor.

Engagement Session - What to Wear

You scheduled your Engagement session and now you have no clue what either of you two should wear! Should we wear matching outfits? Should I style my hair like this? Should I wear these shoes? It's too cold out- should I wear a coat?

Here are some suggestions on what to wear for your Engagement Session:

Wear something your definitely comfortable in. If you’re not comfortable it will show in your photos. 3 outfit changes are welcomed. They give variety to the photos. Plus they set a theme or mood to the photo.

Wear something you love! Don't wear something a few months from now you wish you hadn't.

I do try different angles so if you wear something that if you bend down, or look that way, or turn to the side something shows that you don't want to show, it's best not to wear it.

Wear clothes that compliment you in color and style. Don't be too matchy-matchy. If you both want to wear grey, make it different shades of grey. Then wear something that pops- like those fabulous pair of red shoes.

If you want to wear a dress with a pattern on it - it would be a good for fiancé not to wear another pattern that is bold or that will clash against you. Vice-versa. However it's much flattering if you both wear solid-color clothing. We will be looking at a lot of places with texture and color.

Wear clothes that are the same level of dressiness. Don't dress up and have your fiancé wear everyday clothes like: jeans, sneakers, and a t-shirt.

Think about layering clothing. For example: some dark jeans, with a nice top and a cardigan.

Dress an upscale from casual. But still be you!

Darker colors are very flattering and easy to photographer. However if you have something in white, don't be afraid to bring it anyway.

Wear shoes you love! Wear comfortable shoes.

Leave your purse behind. My assistant may be able to carry a few necessities for you like car keys, cell phone, etc.

If you bring your dog with you, make sure a friend comes along to watch him/her while we take other shots.

We will go back to the car/or a public restroom for clothing changes.

Key thing to keep in mind:
Have fun! Think of it has a fun date with your fiancé.

I was looking in my hard drive for photos to print from my recent trips to Tulsa and behold!--these two cuties were found. I do remember P. Alan asking me if I can take a few shots of the kiddos playing outside, but somehow I just don't know why I didn't catch these. I'm glad I found them.

Welcome to {the blog}! I'm so happy you stopped in.

If you’re here for the first time and wanna know a little more about me...read on.

My friends would tell you that I love and get VERY excited photographing beautiful people where ever I'm at. It just makes me thrive to love even more what I do. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I genuinely love. Photography for me is more than taking pictures. It is capturing the true spirit and emotion of great moments to create works of art.

I grew up in Harlingen, Texas in a Christian home. My dad was a pastor, so we traveled a lot deep into Mexico. My mother and three older sisters always supported any "art" I participated in. With that support, I went on to get a Digital Media Design Degree. Right after graduation, I started J Lori Photography and there hasn't been a dull moment since!

Every opportunity to shoot, whether it’s a child, senior, family or mother-to-be, is unique in so many ways. I feel so privileged to capture the honest emotion that love brings to an engaged couple, the happiness that a family brings or the feeling of new life when a mom cuddles her newborn.

Sessions with me are fun, fast paced & like an hour with a good friend. We mold everything around my style (colorful, fresh, artsy, sometimes classy) and your personality. I love clients that take risks, think a little out of the box, AND ask for help with sessions (what to wear, locations, etc). That’s what I’m here for.

The Reyna Brothers'

So have I mentioned that these boys were suprisingly so well behaved during their shoot? They were! When my "misters" threw out the idea of having a portrait session with his nephews I was thrilled but I was also getting myself prepared to be a little tough. Because boys will be boys. ;) However, when we all headed outside they played so calmly that I had to tell them "OKAY let's all jump jump". IMAGINE THAT!! Not that I'm complaining, actually I'm very glad. For most of the shoot, I was able to bring out a photojournalistic kick: meaning no posing. =D

A little play time! I love it when siblings play with eachother, Jayden got very excited when big brother Seth wanted to play "house".

Grandma told me that neither her or mom has a photo of the two of them together. :( So I took several but this has to be my favorite one.

Prices:
We don't like it (because we have to go back to the books and change everything) but we had to change our prices on session and individual prints. Why? Because of the shipping and processing. Yeah...like I said, we don't like it either. But no worries, we made sure that our prices still won't hurt your wallet. In fact, we have gotten comments from new clients that they think our prices are soo reasonable. =) And that makes us proud.

Tour:
I will be in the Valley (RGV) July 27 - Oct 1, 2009
I will be in Tulsa, OK (Oct 3- 17, 2009)
During this tour I will be away from my editing and processing station. So all photos will be delievered at the end of October. (It will be worth the wait, I promise. I'll even add a little something.)

Naomi Evangeline: Sneak Peek

When I first saw Evangeline at the hospital (I'm her auntie =D ) I thought, she is not a newborn size. Giving Naomi's newborn session, I was right. However she is the most beautiful newborn I've EVER seen! Even though she already has a personality at 6 days old...she was asleep almost through the entire session. Here is a little sneak peek (it was hard to choose my fav. because there are so many!)

During the weekends, I tend to get a lot of voice mails. haha. I don't ignore phone calls, it's simple because I'm not available at the moment. Why? Because on the weekends I'm usually getting ready for a session, in a photo shoot or having a consultation with someone. Imagine having a consultation with me and my phone keeps ringing. How distracting is that?! And to be honest, most of you can relate, I spend some quality time with my family. It's how I balance business with family (plus its also a big part of why I have a happy attitude during photo sessions) However I do listen to my voice mails at the end of the day and make it a priority to get back to you on Monday :)

So the best time to contact me is during the weekdays from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

If it's extremely urgent I will call you back when I get the voicemail!

I moved to Erwin, North Carolina for a few months and for some strange odd reason as soon as we enter this town my cell phone does not get ANY reception and IF it does it will only be for a split second and IF I'm lucky, I can check my voice mail. haha.

My hypothesis is this: there are not enough T-Mobile towers near Erwin. ;)

Arlene & Jamal compliment each other so well I had a great time shooting. Arlene's sister Charlene (they're twins) kept laughing at me at all the ooo's and aaa's and my sneaky laughs when there were some hott shots (below are a few of my fav.). At the end of every session or event, I look forward to voicemails, e-mails, text, phone calls and letters, saying how much they loved their photographs. Some bring me to tears and just give me a smile that will last for days, others give me encouragement and suggestions. Both are welcomed in my heart. It's part of what inspires me as a photographer.

Digital Images on CD/DVD

Purchasing images on CD/DVD from your portrait session is such an advantage. You get to print them whenever you want!! What's not to love about that?

In my packaging, I include a document that suggest where to get quality prints and a brief illustration on how to crop your images right so nothing important gets cut off.

Each CD/DVD comes your high resolution finished images. ("Finished" means edited. I do not sell my negative images.) How many images on the CD/DVD will depend on the type of session.

Digital Images for Lifestyle Sessions:
 High Resolution Images on DVD/CD =$125.00
-individual files $50/each
 Low Resolution Images on DVD/CD =$25.00
-individual files $10/each
